The Scripps Ecological Observatory is an effort to improve the discoverability of ecological data collected by different research groups and projects on the Ellen Browning Scripps Pier at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Signature datasets are provided by the Bowman Lab. Data presented here are provisional and no warranty is provided.
Dissolved gas and flow cytometry data are available from the UC San Diego Library Digital Collection at https://doi.org/10.6075/J0348KHJ.
eDNA Sample Collection
Samples for eDNA are collected by a custom-built semi-autonomous collection device. The device is triggered to sample at 10 am PT daily, or when a temperature excursion associated with breaking internal waves is detected.
Dissolved Gas Measurements
Dissolved oxygen, nitrogen, and argon are measured each minute on a Hiden HPR-40 membrane inlet mass spectrometer (MIMS). The ratio of oxygen to argon provides a measure of the amount of photosynthesis taking place relative to respiration. [O2]bio is an estimate of the oxygen deficit or excess due to biology alone. Positive values indicate net autotrophic conditions, while negative values indicate net heterotrophic conditions.
